Child critical after being thrown from third floor balcony

Please pray for my son.

A 5-year-old boy was thrown off a balcony three storeys high at the Mall of America.

The family posted about the awful incident on social media, and a GoFundMe was started to raise money for the family during this horrific time of need. If you'd like to donate, the link is attached to this story.

The page's founder, Noah Hanneman, described Landen as the "sweetest, kindest" boy who enjoys soccer and playing with his friends and siblings.

As of late Saturday night, the campaign has raised more than $310,000 - surpassing its original goal of $250,000.

Witnesses said Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda, 24, pushed or threw the 5-year-old boy on Friday morning from the third-floor balcony of the mall's interior to the first floor, almost 40 feet below, Bloomington Police Chief Jeff Potts said in a news conference on Saturday, April 13.

Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda, 24, was charged with attempted homicide.

It happened at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota shortly after 10am local time on Friday.

The boy was thrown from the third-floor balcony at the Mall of America.

Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda, 24, was chased down by cops in Bloomington, Minnesota.

Witnesses said the child landed on the first level and the suspect took off running before he was apprehended by officers who took him into custody at the transit station of the mall, police said.

"'She was screaming 'Everyone pray, everyone pray. Oh my God, my baby, someone threw him over the edge, '" a witness, Brian Johnson told WCCO-TV.

Emergency crews had rushed to help the child.

Police Chief Jeff Potts said he couldn't reveal details about the child's condition Saturday afternoon.

Potts said some of Aranda's past cases were handled through a mental health court, but would not comment further on the man's mental health status at the time of Friday's incident.

'The child did suffer significant injuries, ' he said.

Potts said he couldn't give an update on the boy's status, except to say that he's being cared for at the hospital and that his parents are with him.

Potts said, emphasizing that police believe this to be an 'isolated incident'.

"This was a senseless act and words can not truly express our profound shock and sadness".

"We have counselling services available for anyone who may need assistance". "We think the mall is still a very safe place to go".

Court documents also show that the mall assault suspect was convicted of property damage for smashing five computers at Sumner Library in Minneapolis in August of 2015, causing about $5,000 in damage.

Court records show the suspect was charged following two previous run-ins with police and security officers at the megamall.

Aranda asked the woman to buy him something while they sat outside the restaurant, waiting for it to open.
