SpaceX's Falcon Heavy will now fly on Wednesday, hopefully

SpaceX now says that Falcon Heavy will likely launch tomorrow, Wednesday, April 10th.

If you were eagerly anticipating the second-ever launch of SpaceX's Falcon Heavy rocket this past weekend, you were sorely disappointed when the company was forced to delay the launch. The rocket launch was postponed from early April due to unspecified concerns, and then postponed again just this week due to weather. The Air Force's 45th Weather Squadron is expecting 80 percent "go" conditions during the window. With three first-stage boosters akin to SpaceX's Falcon 9 rockets, the Falcon Heavy boosters, too, are created to fly back to Earth and be reusable. (6,000 kilograms) Arabsat-6A for the Saudi Arabian satellite communications company Arabsat. The rocket is capable of delivering up to 59,000 pounds to a similar orbit, but that would mean SpaceX wouldn't be able to recover their boosters for reuse.

Weather permitting, the Falcon Heavy will take off on its first commercial voyage on Wednesday, April 10. You can also watch the launch directly from SpaceX's webcast page. After liftoff, the huge rocket's two side boosters and central core stage are expected to return to Earth for the triple landing.

The Block 5 booster is the latest-generation Falcon 9, meant to be reused numerous times with minimal refurbishment.

In fact, the two side boosters that will fly tomorrow are already earmarked for Falcon Heavy's next flight, now slated for June.

"Its first stage is composed of three Falcon 9 nine-engine cores whose 27 Merlin engines together generate more than 5 million pounds of thrust at liftoff, equal to approximately eighteen 747 aircraft".

"Following booster separation, Falcon Heavy's two side boosters will attempt to land at SpaceX's Landing Zones 1 and 2 (LZ-1 and LZ-2) at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida", SpaceX wrote in a mission description. After the missed landing in 2018, Musk revealed that the center core didn't have enough ignition fluid to light all of its engines used for landing, and called the solution "obvious". Aside from being the last major source of data for the ultimate certification of Falcon Heavy for high-value military launches, the USAF hopes that STP-2 will be a critical step towards opening the doors of launch contract competitions to flight-proven rockets like Falcon 9 and - eventually - Blue Origin's New Glenn.
