World's top billionaire urges rivals to up wages

Responding to a news report on Amazon's satellite launch on Twitter, Mr Musk tagged Jeff Bezos calling him a copycat using a cat emoticon for portion of his tweet. "Do it! Better yet, go to $16 and throw the gauntlet back at us", he commented. "It's a kind of competition that will benefit everyone".

Amazon's third party sales in 2018 accounted for 58 percent of total sales, up from 56 percent in 2017, Bezos said.

Barlett also wrote: "Hey retail competitors out there (you know who you are) how about paying your taxes?"

In response, eBay CEO Devin Wenig takes to Twitter to defend his company.

His tweet; "We don't compete with our sellers".

The GMB at the time said it proved Amazon had "heeded long-standing calls to pay people, at the very least, the minimum they need to live".

But rivals continue to take pot shots at Amazon not having to pay anything to the IRS. "Amazon will be experimenting at the right scale for a company of our size if we occasionally have multibillion-dollar failures".

It is true that there is an obvious difference in the minimum wage between Walmart and Amazon.

According to Amazon, the company has raised our minimum wage to US$15-an-hour for all full-time, part-time, temporary, and seasonal employees across the United States. CEO Doug McMillon has said Walmart's average USA hourly wage is $17.50 including bonuses based on store performance, and excluding healthcare benefits.

Bezos's letter also comes as pilots from three carriers who fly for Amazon Prime Air and DHL cargo jets are planning to protest poor working conditions including low pay and severe attrition issues Thursday near the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, according to a press release from union group Airline Professionals Association.

Walmart is reportedly acquiring Polymorph Labs, advertising startup in Silicon Valley for that objective. Visit MarketWatch.com for more information on this news.
