Britney Spears appears in Los Angeles court to address conservatorship

Meanwhile, Britney was seen arriving at a Los Angeles courthouse holding hands with her mother, Lynne Spears, for Friday's conservatorship hearing. Fans concerned about the singer's well-being used the hashtag on Twitter (making it a trend, too), especially after Britney checked into a mental health facility to help cope with her father, Jamie Spears' illness.

The Zoey 101 star, 28, shared a snap of her sister, 37, to Instagram just hours after Britney appeared in a closed-door court hearing about her conservatorship on Friday. Reporters and onlookers were removed from the courtroom and the hearing was closed.

After hearing Britney Spears and her parents speak in a joint court appearance, a judge ordered an expert evaluation in the conservatorship that for 11 years has put much of the singer's life in the control of her father.

Spears' ex-husband Kevin Federline has custody of their boys, 13-year-old Sean and 12-year-old Jayden, who have frequent visits with their mother.

Earlier this week Britney's mum set the rumour mill turning after launching her own legal bid around the conservatorship.

Lutfi sued the Spears family in 2009, alleging Britney Spears had breached a contract with him, Jamie Spears had punched him and Lynne Spears had defamed him in a memoir.

Conservatorship, known in many states as guardianship, is an involuntary status usually reserved for very elderly or very ill people who are suffering from dementia or otherwise incapacitated and unable to make decisions for themselves.

Meanwhile, sources tell TMZ that Lynne, who is now staying with the singer, is very keen to get access to her daughter's medical records, but she has no interest in becoming a co-conservator of Britney's financial and personal affairs. CNN reported that Lufti has sent threatening text messages to Britney Spears and her family. Britney does not have to attend.

The status hearing was continued until September 18.

Her parents' situations along with the departure from the case of the lawyer who long served as Jamie Spears' co-executor seemed to suggest significant changes might be coming in the legal arrangement.

The judge also ordered that he not contact or disparage anyone from the family.

"Beginning over a decade ago, Lutfi began pretending to have a professional association with Ms. Spears, even falsely claiming to have been her manager, when in reality he was only a parasite attempting to gain attention by associating himself with her celebrity and attempting to keep her isolated and under his influence", the filing said.

According to restraining order granted, Lutfi will have to discontinue his "disparaging public statements regarding Ms. Spears, her conservator, or her family or her manager".
