"Endgame" is still going after the box office king, "Avatar", which has the highest grossing box office total of all time with $2.788 billion.

The stunning conclusion to Marvel Studios' 10-year Infinity Saga snagged the No. 1 spot at the domestic box office once again with an added $63.1 million.

Avengers: Endgame officially passed Avengers: Infinity War ($679 million) and Black Panther ($700 million) to become the third-highest grossing movie of all time at the domestic box office with $724 million in ticket sales.

The reign of Earth's Mightiest Heroes has fallen, at least at the global box office. Between both the domestic and foreign box offices, Detective Pikachu has earned a combined total of US$170.4 million.

The mega-blockbuster film Avengers: Endgame topped the weekend box office for a third week in a row, but Pokémon: Detective Pikachu followed its tracks very closely at #2 in its opening weekend.

Endgame has now made $723.5 million domestically, which is only behind Avatar ($760.5 million) and Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($936.6 million). All this translates to a $58 million opening weekend for the movie, which makes it the best unadjusted opening for a video game based film to date. According to MyNintendoNews, the second biggest opening weekend for a video game franchise movie was Angelina Jolie's Tomb Raider.

"It worked because of the lighthearted nature of the film", Goldstein said.

While numbers could fluctuate after final tallies come in Monday, estimates on Sunday show Warner Bros. and Legendary's "Detective Pikachu" earned $103 million from 62 foreign markets. "You don't need to be a Pokemon fan to see the movie". The movie's worldwide total for its debut weekend stands at $161 million (that includes North American sales).
