Realme X gets announced with pop-up selfie cam, costs under $300

Realme's flagship device comes with features like notch-less display and in-display fingerprint sensor. You can't expand the memory though. The 16MP sensor is integrated on a retractable camera module placed at the top edge of the handset, just like the selfie camera on OPPO F11 Pro. For capturing depth information in portrait shots, it has a 5MP secondary rear camera.

The back of the smartphone, be that as it may, sports a similar primary sensor as the OnePlus 7 Pro-a 48MP Sony IMX586.

The much-awaited Realme X has finally been unveiled at a launch event in Beijing and I know, most of us have been expecting it to be a flagship smartphone - but it really isn't one. The company told that this elevating mechanism is tested around 200,000 times. Both the White and Blue colours come with an S-shaped pattern at the back. The phone is priced at 1499 yuan (US$ 219 / Rs. 15,325 approx.) for the 4/64GB variant, 1599 yuan (US$ 232 / Rs. 16,345 approx.) for the 6/64GB variant and 1799 yuan (US$ 261 / Rs. 18,395 approx.) for the 8/128GB variant. As per a report by Android Central, the "Chinese manufacturer has collaborated with Japanese industrial designer Naoto Fukasawa over limited editions of the Realme X that have been inspired by onions and garlic". The Realme X Lite has a bigger battery (4045mAh) and a smaller 6.3-inch FHD+ display. The phone is powered by the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor coupled with 4GB+64GB, 6GB+64GB, and 6GB+128GB RAM and storage. The device should be running on the latest ColorOS 6.0 based on Android 9.0 Pie out of the box.

Interestingly, there's no microSD card slot on the handset.

Coming to the camera department; at the rear, the device has a 16MP main camera with LED flash, Sony IMX519, f/1.7 aperture, and EIS. The company says it has used sapphire glass on the surface of the pop-up front camera for scratch resistance.

The new phones also offer "960fps/720P and 120fps/1080P" slow motion video shooting.

Prices for the handset will start at CNY 1,499 which is about $220 at the current exchange rate, the Realme X Lite will start at CNY 1,199 which is about $175. Moreover, Realme X has retained the headphone jack and packs a 3,765 mAh battery, and Oppo's VOOC 3.0 fast charging.
