Accidental cat filter appears on Pakistan official's briefing

A livestreamed press conference in Pakistan turned into a near cat-astrophe when a feline filter on Facebook plastered adorable cat ears and whiskers onto a trio of politicians. The furry-faced images were deleted quickly from the party's official page, but screenshots were passed around on social media.

But pink cat ears and whiskers were superimposed onto the local boss's face.

"I wasn't the only one-two officials sitting along me were also hit by the cat filter", he said.

A clarification was issued by the Tehreek-e Insaf political party on Twitter, defending their online team as "pioneers of social media in Pakistan".

"Yesterday, whilst covering a press briefing held by KP's Information Minister Shoukat Yousf Zai, a "cat filter" was witnessed by the viewers which was removed within few minutes", the statement said.

Shoukat Yousufzai's party later released a statement to explain the incident.

"Who let the cats out!" added Twitter user @sibkaifee, while @MustafaBaloch turned to the social network to make a jibe, writing: "WTH!"

Shaukat Yousafzai's social media team was live streaming his address to media in Peshawar last week when the cat filter was accidentally enabled.

Speaking to AFP afterwards, Yousafzai said the incident had happened by accident. "We... pride ourselves in bringing Pakistani politics to [the] internet".

PTI SM Disciplinary committee probed the matter first hand and concluded the incident as "a human error" by one of our hard working volunteers.
