Blumhouse & Universal Find Their ‘Invisible Man’ In Oliver Jackson-Cohen

"Throughout cinematic history Universal's classic monsters have been reinvented through the prism of each new filmmaker that brings these characters to life", Peter Cramer, Universal's President of Production, said in a previous statement.

The Haunting of Hill House star Oliver Jackson-Cohen has landed the title role of Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions' The Invisible Man, according to Deadline.

The thriller drama is written, directed and produced by Leigh Whannell, who also wrote, directed and executive produced the 2018 sci-fi thriller 'Upgrade, ' and who also wrote and produced the famous 'Insidious: The Last Key'. The movie will begin filming this month in Sydney, Australia. We have writer and director Leigh Whannell in charge, Elisabeth Moss, Storm Reid, Aldis Hodge and Harriet Dyer as part of the cast and now we finally have the Invisible Man himself.

The Dark Universe launched with "The Mummy" in 2017. Critics instantly panned the film, which now sits with 16% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Invisible Man is now filming and is scheduled for theaters on Friday, March 13, 2020.

However, with the disappointing reception of that initial film, Universal retooled its plans for a Dark Universe, instead choosing to focus on individual stories rather than attempting to build a shared universe. With Depp out of the picture and "The Mummy" a miss with audiences, "The Invisible Man" could be a standalone movie at this point, and depending on the reaction, could be the start of a new interconnected franchise.

Jackson-Cohen, who starred as the troubled Luke Crain in the Netflix horror anthology, will take on the titular character of The Invisible Man for Universal and Blumhouse.
