Bruins, Danton Heinen set August 3 arbitration date for new deal

The Bruins and their 24-year-old winger have set an August 3 date for the forward's potential arbitration hearing.

Forward Danton Heinen is staying with the Boston Bruins after signing a two-year contract on Tuesday.

Heinen, 24, tallied 11 goals and 23 assists for 34 points with a plus-13 rating in 77 games with Boston in 2018-19.

The deal carries an average annual value of $2.8 million.

Danton Heinen of the Boston Bruins walks to the rink before the 2019 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic against the Chicago Blackhawks at Notre Dame Stadium on January 01, 2019 in South Bend, Indiana.

He is coming off his three-year, entry-level contract. That was a bit of a regression from the season before - his first full season in the National Hockey League - when he had 16 goals and 47 points.

He enjoyed his best offensive season as a rookie in 2017-18, totaling 16 goals and 31 assists for 47 points in 77 games and adding one goal in nine playoff games. If Heinen is awarded a two-year deal in excess of $3.5 million, the Bruins could instead opt for a one-year deal at that given salary. Defensemen Charlie McAvoy and Brandon Carlo are both restricted free agents and the Bruins have just over $7 million in cap space to work with after signing Heinen.
