Liverpool unveil Champions League banner at Manchester United training

"6 x European Champions" was what a banner read while being flown behind a small plane to the shock and amusement of the Man-U faithful.

Perth's love affair with Manchester United continued on Thursday evening during the team's open training session, but there was also a cheeky dig from the club's arch rivals Liverpool.

Finally, some United fans hoped their side, who finished sixth in the Premier League last season, could take inspiration from the banner.

No doubt it was an untimely reminder for Solskjaer and Co, although perhaps it motivated them to push harder in their pre-season session.

The Old Trafford giants are in Australia at the moment for their pre-season preparations and are now holding an open training session at the WACA.

But the plane banner will be the least of Solskjaer's worries ahead of the pre-season opener against Perth Glory on July 13.

Solskjaer is determined to get his players fit after criticising their conditioning after he succeeded Jose Mourinho in December.

Before one Liverpool fan hit back: "It's called a rivalry and this is fantastic banter, dry your eyes".

"I think the players have done well". 'Of course if you're at Carrington working in your normal environment sometimes that goes stale.

Are Liverpool or Manchester United the bigger club in England?

'I'm used to it, I played here for 11 years, I'm used to that pre-season.
