Spurs Attempt To Hijack Arsenal Move For William Saliba

Arsenal are closing in on a deal for Saint Etienne defender William Saliba worth around £25million, according to the Evening Standard.

Tottenham's offer exceeds the demands of Saint-Etienne and the club are now prepared to negotiate a deal with the north London side.

The Gunners have been eyeing the 18-year-old for the majority of the window but it is believed Spurs have offered a better deal than their rivals.

However, Tottenham are believed to have made a last-ditch attempt to try and bring him to the other major club within north London.

However, in a potentially huge blow to Arsenal, both from a football and a pride perspective, RMC's Mohamed Bouhafsi has shared information on Twitter about a late Spurs offer for Saliba that eclipses the bid submitted by the Gunners.

Despite being well stocked with the likes of Jan Vertonghen, Juan Foyth and Davinson Sanchez, adding a young talent like Saliba could be a good move for Spurs to make.

Unai Emery is in desperate need of a new centre-back to join his squad, so they should leave Spurs to finalise this deal and go in search of someone who can link up with the first-team immediately.

Reports emanating from France early last month confirmed that Arsenal were making serious inroads in their pursuit of the stopper, with the personal terms of a contract long-said to have been agreed between the parties.

A report from Charles Watts of Goal.com in May revealed that two of the outfits keen on the Saint-Etienne starlet are Premier League giants Arsenal and Manchester United.
