"Our telecommunication provider continues to work to resolve their incident that is impacting our services", the CBA tweeted. "We apologise to all of our customers who are inconvenienced by this", a CBA spokesman said in a statement to AAP.

"We are now investigating an issue affecting services, including EFTPOS and access to ATMs, for a number of enterprise customers nationally", a Telstra spokesperson said.

All four major banks have confirmed "sporadic outages" of services including ATM and Eftpos access across the country, with fingers increasingly being pointed at the country's largest telco Telstra.

As of a short while ago, Telstra was still investigating, with a cause of the problem unknown, according to ABC News.

The Commonwealth bank has also acknowledged the issues on Twitter.

Telstra has also tweeted that it is looking into the issue, apologising to those impacted. The outage then cascaded into a higher number of calls than usual into its call centre.

"Most customer services have now been restored, and we're working with our customers on the remaining few", a Telstra spokesman said on Thursday night. "We are working to have full services restored as a matter of priority".
