Twitter is down: What do we do now?

"We are now investigating issues people are having accessing Twitter", a spokesperson said in an email when the reports first surfaced.

We would tell you to retweet this story to "help save a life", but obviously you can't (because Twitter is down).

At the moment all Twitter APIs are impacted by the ongoing outage, after Twitter initially reported that only Volume Streams & PowerTrack were affected by degraded performance issues.

Both sites were back up and running by 4 p.m. The microblogging platform confirmed the service disruption on Thursday but has yet to provide more detailed information.

Users across the world were unable to access their Twitter feeds and profiles on Thursday evening, amidst concerns that the social media giant had crashed again.

Twitter is experiencing an outage. "Thanks for noticing - we're going to fix it up and have things back to normal soon", a message on the website's homepage reads.

You can see a map of the outages below. Twitter posted an explanation on its status page blaming an "internal configuration change" that it was fixing. On July 3, a technical glitch prevented Instagram users worldwide - as well as Facebook and WhatsApp users - from sharing or accessing photos and videos for much of the day.

The latest string of outages follow a recurring trend of issues hitting social media over the past few weeks.
