UN Concerned By US Curbs On Iranian Foreign Minister

"For the time being, none of the parties to the agreement has signalled their intention to invoke this article", said Mogherini after the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels.

British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt says that even if the window to find a diplomatic solution to the standoff over the Iran nuclear deal is quickly closing, he still holds out some hope that the agreement can be salvaged.

It has threatened to return to the situation before the nuclear deal was agreed unless Europe does more to mitigate the effects of the sanctions.

The EU has set up a mechanism for facilitating legitimate trade without direct financial transactions.

Iranian officials have not said anything publicly about the ship, nor have officials in the UAE.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu slammed European leaders now scrambling to salvage the July 2015 nuclear agreement with Iran.

Iran began the second stage of rolling back its nuclear commitments on 7 July, by increasing its uranium enrichment levels from the 3.67 percent limit stipulated by the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

If the Riah has been seized, it would seem an unusual target for Iran. Low-enriched uranium provides fuel for civilian power plants.

In a statement, the so-called E3 expressed concern the deal was at risk of further unravelling but said it was up to Iran to ensure its survival.

Back in 2015, the US, China, Britain, France, Russia, and Germany signed a deal with Iran to limit its nuclear programme in exchange for a partial removal of worldwide economic sanctions. If Pompeo received an offer to go on Iranian television, he would accept, he said, and tell Iranians "that we're supportive of the Iranian people, that we understand that the revolutionary theocracy is not acting in a way that is in their best interest".

"U.S. diplomats don't roam around Tehran, so we don't see any reason for Iranian diplomats to roam freely around New York City, either", Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told The Washington Post on Sunday. Iran's leaders have concluded that the European Union is unable to counter US pressure and they can not rely on Europe's "special objective vehicle (the "Instrument in Support of Trade Exchanges" or INSTEX) or any other options to shield Iranian commerce from sanctions".

Ahead of the meeting in Brussels, Mr Hunt said: "The Middle East is already one of the most unstable regions in the world, but if the different parties were armed with nuclear weapons it would represent an existential threat to mankind".

Under the deal, Iran agreed to curb major parts of its sensitive nuclear program in return for the lift of United Nations as well as the western sanctions. Iran has called the allegations "ridiculous".

"(It) means that none of them for the moment, for the time being with the current data we have had in particular from the (U.N. nuclear watchdog) IAEA, (consider Iran's) non-compliance...to be significant non-compliance".

French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said that Iran's recent moves to surpass mutually agreed limits from the deal were only "a bad reaction following a bad decision - which was the USA decision to withdraw from the accord and put sanctions into place".

In pulling out of the deal, Trump in part blamed the accord not touching on Iran's ballistic missile programme.
