Dak Prescott seeking $40 million from Cowboys

Dak Prescott seeking $40 million from Cowboys

According to Michael Lombardi of The Athletic, Prescott allegedly turned down a deal that would pay him approximately $30 million per year.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott (4) on the sideline against the San Francisco 49ers during the fourth quarter at Levi's Stadium. He is now under a contract that is set to only pay him $2.025 million in base salary this season, which is WAY below league average.

In reality, his best bet is probably for an agreement somewhere in the middle of the reported $30 million and his $40 million asking price. For Eagles fans and opposing NFC franchises, the Cowboys overpaying for Prescott would be a win, while making it less likely that Dallas is able to keep the quarterback, Ezekiel Elliott, and Amari Cooper.

ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio, however, reported that this was false by any standard.

With both quarterbacks entering their fourth National Football League season, it's only a matter of time before both Goff and Prescott see hefty paydays from their respected teams, especially when seeing what quarterbacks make these days. Wilson agreed to a contract earlier this year that averages $35 million annually. But we know this: paying Prescott $40 million annually, like appeasing the wholly unreliable Elliott at all, ain't it.

That'll happen. The results are too good for them and too good for the Cowboys. Nobody actually believes Prescott deserves to be paid more than any other quarterback, and most would argue that he's not the same level of player as Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson or Carson Wentz, three of the highest-paid quarterbacks.

A fourth-round pick in 2016, Prescott is headed into the fourth and final year of his rookie contract.
