Facebook's Android app is getting a dark mode

In a world where apps are constantly getting whiter and brighter, it's no surprise to see more and more people clamoring for dark modes. That's why developers are increasingly adopting Dark Mode in their apps.

The FB5 design was applied to the apps for both Android and iOS, so it stands to reason that if the dark mode would be rolled out to both. In fact, I'd go so far as to say Android Q's janky workaround looks better than what we see in the screenshot, but FB post comments appear as white on white making them next to impossible to read.

Researcher Jane Manchun Wong, who frequently combs through code in search of new features, did some digging into the Android app, and discovered that Facebook was working on a new, darker look.

Anyway, we'll keep you posted on dark mode for Facebook. According to Jane, dark mode is in "early development" and with an app the size of Facebook, it could take some time to implement it across the entire app.

As is the case with many new Facebook features, Dark Mode is likely going to go through internal testing before it sees a soft roll out to only a fraction of Facebook's user base. "For example, dark text displaying on a dark background, and vice versa", she added. Once all the wrinkles has been ironed out, it will be released globally.
