FIRST ALERT WEATHER Day issued for Tuesday due to unsafe heat

The National Weather Service in Huntsville has issued an Excessive Heat Warning from 7 p.m. Monday to 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The heat is expected to crank-up even higher this week.

"Research from surrounding areas has shown that heat-related illnesses seem to peak just below advisory thresholds", Palmer said.

Another hot and humid afternoon is expected with once again a Heat Warning in the River Valley. Today's high will be near 102 with a heat index of 105-110.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. Strenuous activities should be rescheduled to the early morning or evening if possible, and people should take breaks if they are working outside. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.
