Now, the Queen of Rap is back with a new "collection of new songs", Iconology.

The rapper revealed on her social media accounts that Iconography will be unveiled at midnight and has suggested that the tracks will be a throwback to a more upbeat time. In 2017, she released her single "I'm Better" and then followed it up with a remix featuring Eve, Lil Kim and Trina but fans were left disappointed as she kind of disappeared again.

"While Missy hadn't released an album since 2005 before "Iconology", she has appeared on several songs in the meantime, including Little Mix's "How Ya Doin"?' in 2012, Ariana Grande tune"'Borderline" last year, and she collaborated with Lizzo on "Tempo" earlier this year. The 48-year-old rapper surprised fans with Iconology, a five-song EP, on Friday. At this year's MTV Video Music Awards, she will be honoured with the Video Vanguard award just months after she entered the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

In part, Missy took an extended hiatus from the album and tour circuit as a result of health issues: in 2011, she revealed that she has the autoimmune disorder Graves' disease, which at one point presented such severe symptoms that it was hard for her to even hold a pen to write music.
