National Football League denies former Lions receiver Golden Tate's appeal of 4-game suspension

New York Giants wide receiver Golden Tate has had the appeal of his four-game suspension for a violation of the NFL's policy on performance enhancers turned down.

The Giants announced the suspension officially on Tuesday afternoon.

Tate will be eligible to return to the Giants on September 30, one day after the club's Week 4 game against the Washington Redskins. The Notre Dame product can participate in all preseason activities and games.

Tate released a statement on Twitter when he was first suspended, attributing the failed test to a treatment prescribed during the offseason for fertility planning. "I immediately discontinued use, I reported the situation to the Independent Administrator of the NFL Policy on Performance-Enhancing Substances, and I spoke with my coaches and general manager".

"He is going to be in the right spot and he has a good feel for the zones, how to get open versus different techniques and stuff", Manning told reporters. In the offseason, the receiver signed a four-year deal worth $37.5 million with NY.

Tate, who signed a $37.5 million contract as a free agent with the Giants in March, feasted on the Cowboys secondary last September - as a member of the Detroit Lions - catching eight passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns in a 26-24 loss to Dallas.

Without Tate, the Giants receiving corps looks even more barren, as a wave of injuries struck the team early in training camp, culminating with Corey Coleman tearing his ACL, and Sterling Shepard breaking his thumb. In the middle of the 2018 season, he was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles.
