The Lion King Remake Is Now The Top Grossing Animated Film

The Lion King is the second highest Hollywood earner in India this year, behind Avengers: Endgame, which has grossed over Rs 400 crore, and is the biggest film of the year. If we count it as such, it's outperformed Beauty and the Beast ($1.263 billion) as the highest-grossing live-action musical of all time to become Walt Disney's biggest live-action movie ever.

The latest victory is The Lion King, which, as Cinema Blend reports, with a worldwide gross of over $1.3 billion, has now beaten Frozen as the (not adjusted for inflation) highest earning animated film release of all time.

The Lion King has been classified as an animated film because of its state-of-the-art photorealistic technology. With The Lion King topping the highest-grossing movie of all-time and Frozen coming second, Incredibles 2 stands at third with $1.242 billion, and Minions at $1.15 billion stands behind the two movies. The Lion King is now in its fourth week and is likely to enter into the list of top-earning movies of all time.

He also said that calling The Lion King an animated movie is 'misleading as far as what the expectations might be'.

Favreau himself even added some fuel to the fire, by saying his film is "neither" animation nor live-action, in an interview with Slash Film. The consensus reads, "While it can take pride in its visual achievements, The Lion King is a by-the-numbers retelling that lacks the energy and heart that made the original so beloved-though for some fans that may just be enough".
