Blast heard near US Embassy in Kabul on 9/11 anniversary

The meeting at Camp David between the US president and the Taliban narco-terrorist group would have taken place last Sunday, days before the 18th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the American homeland.

Taliban jihadis were expected to renounce their ties to al-Qaeda publicly, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said over the weekend during Fox News Sunday.

The Taliban on Tuesday vowed to continue fighting against USA forces in Afghanistan after President Donald Trump said talks with the insurgents were "dead", saying Washington would regret abandoning negotiations.

"I don't see where those negotiations go. Not soldiers or innocent victims of terrorism", said Jim Riches, a retired NY deputy fire chief who responded to the terror 2001 attacks and lost his son, Jimmy, a fellow firefighter.

Trump gave the assessment of peace negotiations, which had been going on between USA and Taliban officials for months, on September 9.

"We're not really getting at 9/11".

"Afghanistan wants to move forward, not backward", she said. As for withdrawing some of the 14,000 USA troops in the country, he said, "We'd like to get out but we'll get out at the right time".

Taliban jihadis killed ten people in the attack, including two North Atlantic Treaty Organisation service members from the United States and Romania.

Trump has cited the death of a U.S. service member in one of those blasts as the reason why he now calls the U.S. -Taliban talks "dead".

Word of the planned Camp David meeting was a surprise to Ellen Judd, who chairs the Afghanistan committee of the September Eleventh Families for Peaceful Tomorrows, which involves over 200 relatives. Will Trump withdraw troops without an agreement of any kind? If the world, including India, still supported the process of talks between the U.S. and the Taliban, it was because it seemed different than the status quo.

Judd hopes the Afghan government - which has been largely sidelined from the negotiations - and civilians will have a role in a broader peace process that would produce a durable cease-fire.

A rocket exploded at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul in the early hours of September 11.

In the meantime, the Taliban have taken hold of another two districts in Afghanistan's northern Takhar province, near the country's border with Tajikistan, local officials said on Tuesday.

'They're useless. So far as I'm involved, they're useless, ' Trump stated on the White Home.

'If Trump desires to cease talks, we are going to take the primary manner and they'll quickly remorse it'.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told Al Jazeera that Trump would regret turning his back on peace talks.

Acknowledging that a military victory is unattainable at this juncture, the Trump administration deemed the peace negotiations the primary tenet of its strategy to end the almost 18-year-old war in Afghanistan.

He also urged the government to provide adequate security arrangements to safeguard the electoral process and appealed to the Afghan people to exercise their right to vote. "So many people forget we're still at war".
