Cleveland Cavs Announcer Fred McLeod Dead at 67

McLeod also spent 22 seasons broadcasting games for the Detroit Pistons before coming back to the Cavs, continuing a career that also included announcing games for the Cleveland Indians, Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions.

McLeod was 67, and his cause of death wasn't immediately known.

Play-by-play broadcaster Fred McLeod died Monday evening.

"It is with true sadness that we mourn the passing of Fred McLeod, who we were fortunate to have return as the television voice of Lions preseason football earlier this year".

McLeod was a fixture in Cleveland sports and his passionate call of the Cavaliers' championship in 2016 still lives on.

Among those mourning McLeod on Twitter was Los Angeles Lakers star and former Cav, LeBron James.

McLeod was also the executive producer for multimedia for the team.

McLeod spent a few years working in San Francisco and was covering the California-Stanford game when the Golden Bears returned a kickoff on the game's final play, with one of their players weaving through Stanford band members over the final few yards into the end zone.

"The Cavaliers extend our deepest condolences to Fred's entire family, including his wife Beth, mother Marilyn, sister Lynn, and his three children, Sean, Jenna, Molly and each of their families".
