Google’s gaming subscription service is coming soon

If you could sum up the decade in tech in one word, I'd probably choose "subscriptions".

"It's nearly time", the company tweeted on Tuesday. But what started out as cost-effective way for consumers to consume entertainment has turned into an expensive, disorientating nightmare.

Google Play Pass, the app and game subscription service from Google, could launch at any moment.

While there are no specifics about the program officially released, we know that the trial included a range of premium apps across a diverse range of categories from games to services. Essentially, it seems that the Play Pass is Google's answer to Apple Arcade, as it's billed as a subscription service that grants users access to a collection of premium apps and games. However, while Apple Arcade is planned to have exclusive games from major developers, there's no way of knowing if that will be the case with Play Pass.

Luckily, when Google Play Pass first surfaced last month, we saw a number of screenshots that told us how the service works and even previewed some of the apps that will be included.

Google Play Pass is coming soon, Google revealed through a tweet posted via Google Play account on Tuesday. One example spotted was Stardew Valley, which usually retails for $12.99 on the store. It's possible it'll be announced amidst all the Pixel 4 news but at this stage, it's anyone's guess.
