Jeremy Corbyn faces challenge to support second referendum - not a general election

Mr Corbyn recommitted to a second referendum on Brexit, which he said would include a "credible option to Leave" as well as Remain.

Johnson said that he would "rather be dead in a ditch" than extend Brexit, and he said that the decision of leaving or not by October 31st should be a matter for the people.

With a deepening crisis over Brexit, both Labour and the governing Conservative Party are already drawing the battle lines for an early election, which many believe could be triggered later this year.

A ComRes poll recently conducted for the Daily Telegraph gave the Conservatives the support of 30% of respondents, with Labour on 29%, the Liberal Democrats on 17% and the Brexit Party on 13%.

Mr Johnson said he wanted to head to the polls next month to break the political deadlock, and accused opposition parties of making "outrageous excuses" to delay a vote. In return, he would let pro-Brexit Conservatives run unopposed, boosting their chances of being elected.

Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage offered Prime Minister Boris Johnson an election pact on Wednesday but warned that unless there was a clean-break Brexit, the Conservatives would take a "real kicking" in any election and could not win a majority.

Fresh Labour Party divisions have opened up over Brexit with a call from deputy leader Tom Watson for a vote on a second referendum before any general election.

"We are ready for that election, we are ready to unleash the biggest people-powered campaign we've ever seen in this country and in this movement", he stated.

Johnson has promised that the United Kingdom would leave the European Union (E.U.) by October 31st with or without a deal.

Watson will say that while an autumn election seems inevitable, "that does not make it desirable".

"We're ready for that election", Jeremy Corbyn said yesterday.

Shadow Brexit secretary Sir Keir Starmer insisted the party was united in its referendum policy.

"I'm going to go back to the people and we are going to go back on this specific issue'", the former Prime Minister said at the launch of the King's College London International School for Government.

"Just as we worked throughout the summer to pass a law preventing no deal, so we will work each and every day we are shut down to enforce that law".

When asked what he thought would happen in coming weeks, Mr Farage said he expected the European Union would make some concessions to Mr Johnson before Oct 31 and that Mr Johnson would try to push a deal through parliament. 'That's why Parliament is in recess now because you always have a recess before a Queen's Speech.

On Thursday the Conservative party suffered another hit, after Johnson´s brother Jo Johnson, resigned his position as a minister and member of the Conservative Party.

It lists key individuals of Mr Johnson's Government, including senior adviser Dominic Cummings and director of legislative affairs Nikki da Costa.

'We see this right through Government, right through the judiciary'.
