Pentagon stalls House in probe over military stay at Trump resort

The US Air Force confirmed on Saturday that its personnel stayed at the Trump Turnberry luxury golf resort in Scotland in March, but denied that doing so was improper or against the rules.

The House Oversight Committee is now investigating the military's decision to do so, along with its expenditures at the Glasgow Prestwick Airport-the airport near Trump's struggling resort that "has been viewed as integral to the golf course's financial success", according to the committee's letter to acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan on June 21.

The House Oversight Committee has been investigating why the crew of a C-17 military transport plane making a routine trip from the United States to Kuwait to deliver supplies stayed at President Trump's Turnberry resort in Scotland, Politico reports.

"In this case, they made reservations through the Defense Travel System and used the closest available and least expensive accommodations to the airfield within the crews' allowable hotel rates", he explained.

Congress is investigating Donald Trump over a potential conflict of interest involving increased USA military spending at Prestwick airport in Glasgow and visits to his Trump Turnberry resort, according to reports.

The issue of spending on Trump resorts also came up earlier this week when Secret Service veterans pressed Vice President Mike Pence about his decision to stay at a Trump's property in Doonbeg, Ireland, which was hundreds of miles away from his meeting in Dublin.

He said the Air Power is level-headed reviewing the records however to this level has not chanced on anything corrupt with the crew's possess at the Trump property. The letter also cited a report that Trump Turnberry has yet to turn a profit.

The Democratic-led Home Oversight Committee despatched a letter in June to then-acting Protection Secretary Patrick Shanahan requesting paperwork associated to the journey and keep in conjunction to an investigation into conflicts of curiosity between the president and his companies.

The House Oversight letter, mentioning the Washington Post, says declines at Trump's Scottish hotel amounted to $4.5 million in 2017.

Both Trump Turnberry and the airport have operated at significant losses in recent years, with the Scottish government putting Prestwick up for sale after taking it into public ownership in 2013.

Trump resigned as director of Turnberry when he took office in January 2017 but continues to hold an ownership stake.
