Boxer Errol Spence seriously injured in Dallas Ferrari crash

The boxing champion Errol Spence Jr.is seriously injured, but he was transported to the hospital.

Spence was then taken to the ICU at Methodist Dallas Medical Center and is expected to survive his injuries, the department continued. Police and paramedics were able to get onto the scene right away and now, Spence is in an intensive care unit where he is receiving around-the-clock care.

After police confirmed that Spence was the lone passenger in a Ferrari that veered over the center median and flipped multiple times, Spence's team released a statement that the champ would be OK.

"He is expected to make a full recovery and is resting with his family by his side", the statement read.

A rep for Spence did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment. That fact that Spence is only suffering so far just facial lacerations merely is astonishing.

Spence, a former U.S. amateur standout, recently became a two-time world champion when he relieved fellow American Shawn Porter of his WBC title at the end of September.

Porter reacted to the news on Twitter Thursday: 'My dad always tells me 'this boxing thing is a part of your life but it's not going to last forever.

"We're all wishing the best for Errol", Smith said.

He won the IBF title in 2017 by stopping Kell Brook in England, and he defended it three times, culminating in a one-sided thrashing of undersized Mikey Garcia in March.

Erol Spence Jr. was a 2012 US Olympian and has 26-0 with 21 knockouts professional record. And at 26-0, fresh off a career signature victory over Shawn Porter on September 28, the possibilities figured to be endless for Spence - with several potentially lucrative bouts potentially in the offing, including a possible meeting with Manny Pacquiao.

Lowkick MMA wishes Spence a speedy recovery.
