Larson ends 2-year winless streak with NASCAR playoff win at Dover

But as for Elliott, Hendrick Motorsports teammates Alex Bowman and William Byron, Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Kyle Busch, Martin Truex Jr. and Denny Hamlin, Team Penske teammates Joey Logano, Brad Keselowski and Ryan Blaney, Stewart-Haas Racing teammates Kevin Harvick and Clint Bowyer and Chip Ganassi Racing's Kyle Larson, they are still in contention to hoist the championship trophy at Homestead-Miami Speedway in mid-November. He is making his 500th career start and Dover is celebrating its 100th race.

Paul Menard placed 12th in the Drydene 400 at Dover International Speedway, adding 25 points to his season total. Larson escaped the first round without any serious drama and can now head to treacherous Talladega and then Kansas to end the second round without any serious concerns.

Hamlin cycled back into the lead after stops ended and went on to take the stage win.

"That's as good as I've ever been around the bottom here".

Larson was expected to help bridge the gap between grassroots racing and NASCAR when Ganassi hired him before the 2012 season.

"If not, you can take everything I own, because I'm that confident", Stewart said years ago.

Larson's not there yet - but just maybe he's getting there.

Logano's No. 22 Ford had an issue with the rear of the auto and was forced to the garage before the green flag dropped.

Logano and Elliott both had their races ruined before the race even finished 10 laps. He eventually hit the track more than 20 laps down and finished 34th.

Chase Elliott, who entered the Round of 12 in sixth place, suffered a blown engine less than 10 laps into the race and finished last. "Unfortunately, we don't really know what it was just yet".

In addition to qualifying for Sunday's race, Saturday's action at Dover saw Cole Custer win the XFINITY series Use Your Melon Drive Sober 200.
