While leaping at Rudolph, Thomas' helmet connected with the quarterback's chin.

The NFL released a statement that the team wasn't required to use a cart, even though Rudolph was knocked unconscious and later hospitalized.

Mason Rudolph has been ruled out of the Pittsburgh Steelers' Sunday night matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, the team announced on Friday.

Thomas told ESPN on Friday that he tried to reach out to Rudolph during the week by calling and texting him. "To be quiet honest with you I didn't know that the cart wasn't functioning until after the game because I was more concerned with Mason".

"I believe that he is", said Tomlin.

Lastly, Steelers Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reporter, Ray Fittipaldo, chatted with Hayre about Devlin Hodges, the Steelers' third-string quarterback who may be making his first career National Football League start against the Chargers Sunday. In a quarter and a half, Hodges completed 7-of-9 pass attempts for 68 yards.

The visit to face the Chargers gives the Steelers a bit of deja vu.

It's been a whirlwind year for Hodges, who wanted to play for Nick Saban at Alabama coming out of high school before eventually settling in at Samford. Pittsburgh won on a touchdown on the final snap.

"I have been in this thing long enough that it is all pretty much a re-run to me", Tomlin said. Samuels will be out about a month after surgery for a sprained left knee.

"This guy has been making tackles on coverage units and stuff. We drafted him to be a running back and he will get an opportunity to get more exposure there because of the injury to Jaylen and I am sure he will be excited about it".
