Philadelphia Phillies fire manager Gabe Kapler after two seasons

Baseball fans can say whatever they want about Kapler, but in the long run, the decision to move on from the former manager after only two seasons seems like the right move for the Phillies.

Kapler went 161-163 in two years, his team unable to deliver following its offseason spending spree. In a statement announcing the move, managing partner John Middleton said he believed changes were necessary and thanked Kapler for his service.

Now that Philadelphia has an opening for manager along with plenty of talent to work with, here are four managers that immediately come to mind as far as potential replacements for Kapler. "I am indebted to Gabe for the steadfast effort, energy, and enthusiasm that he brought to our club".

Philadelphia is expected to hire a new manager with prior big-league experience, according to MLB Network's Jon Morosi, who named Dusty Baker and Buck Showalter as ex-skippers with connections to Phillies president MacPhail.

"Reassuring to me was the endorsement that people outside the Phillies gave to the progress we have made recently, both organisationally and on the field". "We came into 2019 with very high hopes. We fell short of those, and that responsibility lies with me". The next Phillies manager will inherit a team of talented, dedicated and committed players.

"As I move on, I know that this organisation is in a great spot and will see a lot of success going forward". They finished eight games behind Milwaukee for the second wild card and 16 behind the first-place Braves in the NL East.

Kapler took over from Pete Mackanin as Phillies manager to start the 2018 season.

"I was to thank Kap for his tireless commitment to the Phillies over the last two years", Klentak said in a statement.
