Tesla shares remain in reverse after latest delivery numbers disappointed

Tesla CEO Elon Musk reportedly told employees that 100,000 cars was a real possibility for the quarter.

After a Model S caught fire in Hong Kong, Tesla said it was revising charge and thermal management settings on Model S and X vehicles via an over-the-air software update out of an "overabundance" of caution. The company produced 79,837 of the entry-level vehicle that translates to over 83 percent of the Q3 2019 production.

And yet, the number used to be a tad rapid of Wall Street's expectation of 99,000 devices, and investors confirmed their disappointment by tumbling Tesla shares greater than 3% after the market bell closed on Wednesday. Not only did it beat the company's previous record set in the last quarter, the quarterly volume alone was almost equivalent to Tesla's full-year delivery just two years ago.

Tesla does not break down its numbers by country, but as we reported earlier this week, around 1,500 Model 3s are believed to have been delivered in Australia since late August, and new data suggests more than 360 were delivered in New Zealand.

"Looks like the 360k base end of 2019 forecast is commencing to look a bit iffy", Roth Cash Associates analyst Craig Irwin stated.
