Auburn Kidnapping Suspect Arrested In Escambia County

Escambia Sheriff's Maj. Andrew Hobbs said deputies were called by US marshals to help them with the arrest at about 11 p.m. Thursday.

Auburn police this week released images of Yazeed, showing him at the gas station while Blanchard was there and determining that he was involved in taking her against her will.

Ibraheem Yazeed, 30, is wanted on an Auburn Police Division warrant for kidnapping in the first degree stemming from the investigation of the disappearance of Aniah Haley Blanchard between Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2019, and Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019.

An agent says around 11 p.m. Thursday night, Yazeed ran from authorities and hid in a brushy area near I-10 and Pine Forest. There was damage to the passenger side that her family said was not present prior to that day. Several days later police announced that the investigation turned criminal after evidence collected from the vehicle signaled that Blanchard "was harmed and is considered to be a victim of foul play". "Additional charges and/or arrests are anticipated", Auburn Police said. Days later on October 31, police confirmed evidence found inside the vehicle indicated she had been harmed.

Yazeed pleaded guilty to felony drug possession in 2015, was charged with attempted murder in 2012 and was charged with two counts of robbery in 2011.

Yazeed's run-ins with Alabama law enforcers date back nearly a decade.

Yazeed has a lengthy criminal history dating back to 2011 when he was charged with two counts of first-degree robbery, according to court records. He was indicted on those charges in 2015, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced in two separate hearings. Those sentences were suspended, and he never stepped foot in a prison.

He was also arrested in 2017 for aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, records show. A Judge in 2018 sentenced him to serve 16 months in prison, but he was released shortly after his sentencing being credited with 8 months while he awaited trial.

Yazeed was out on bond for charges of kidnapping and attempted murder from another jurisdiction, according to the statement. One victim was almost beaten to death, according to court records. It is believed that Blanchard was taken against her will, the report notes.

Despite the arrest of Yazeed, Blanchard has yet to be found. "It's evident she was special to so many people".
