Cell Phone Users Are Just Now Receiving Old Valentine's Day Texts

An update for messaging platforms used by major carrier caused the "glitch," Sprint told CNET. Since none of the carriers have shared any details, it isn't clear exactly why the text messages were delayed for so long.

California resident Barbara Coll described to the Verge receiving a message from her sister about her mother doing well even though her mother died in June. It was three hours before she learned that everything was fine and the text was an odd anomaly.

It was alarming for one person when she received a text that said "need help" in the middle of the night.

Billions of text messages are sent and received across the U.S. every day, but November 6 was unusual because some of the text messages received were originally sent on Valentine's Day back in February. "But out of context, it was not cool". The text her sister received wished her a happy Valentine's Day.

A third-party vendor glitch was responsible for a rash of mysterious phone text messages reported by social media users, T-Mobile U.S. Inc. said on Thursday. Verizon and AT&T haven't issued any statement so far.

Reports show that iPhones and Androids were all affected by the glitch, and it reached most major carriers in the USA, including T-Mobile, Sprint, AT&T, and Verizon. T-Mobile suggested the data website that it occurred since of a "third-social gathering vendor problem".

Marissa Figueroa, a 25-year-old from California, got an unwanted message from an ex she had stopped talking to - and then he got one from her as well. Figueroa couldn't figure it out, even worrying that her ex was messing with her, until she saw reports of this happening to others.

Just after 5 a.m., I was awakened by a text message. In that text, Gomez seemed to assume she was on her way over to his house so they could order a Lyft. Can their relationship recover?

The out-of-context messages - especially for people who were in a relationship with their exes at the time - have led to some amusing but awkward situations. No mixed messages there.
