Mothercare in Ipswich launches closing down sale

The Mothercare in Rom Valley Way began a closing down sale today (Friday, November 8).

A massive closing down sale has commenced at Mothercare stores across Scotland and the rest of theUK.

Administrators confirmed that the brand will close all its 79 shops in the United Kingdom, putting 2,500 jobs at risk.

A spokesman for Mothercare Norwich said: "This is a great opportunity for customers to pick up some incredible deals as everything is reduced".

'Through this process, it has become clear that the United Kingdom retail operations of the group, which today includes 79 stores, are not capable of returning to a level of structural profitability and returns that are sustainable for the group as it now stands and/or attractive enough for a third party partner to operate on an arm's length basis.

"Demand from customers will be large so really do not wait to get a fantastic deal, specially if you are Xmas buying".

They added: "We'd also like to thank our customers for their historic support of the Mothercare brand".

According to store management, stock levels are high as warehouses are cleared, so there is plenty of choice but some of the most popular ranges may sell out fast.

Mothercare has been a familiar face on British high streets since 1961 and a go-to for parents with its ranges of prams, pushchairs, baby and maternity clothes, nursery furniture and toys.

The children's retailer appointed Zelf Hussain, David Robert Baxendale and Mark James Tobias Banfield of PwC as joint administrators of its United Kingdom division on Tuesday, November 5.

While Mothercare's global shops remain profitable, its United Kingdom division faced serious financial difficulties.

'Furthermore, the company is unable to continue to satisfy the ongoing cash needs of Mothercare UK.

Customers are being encouraged to spend any gift cards as soon as possible.

The web-site will remain live until additional notice and discount rates will also be offered on-line as extended as the web-site is live.
