Saunders defends WBO title with 11th-round TKO against Coceres

Billy Joe Saunders knocked out Marcelo Coceres to successfully defend his WBO super middleweight title.

Watch KSI vs Logan Paul 2 on Saturday, live at Sky Sports Box Office, from midnight.

"Canelo Alvarez is the one I want next and I'll put that performance right, 100 per cent".

"I knew I had to dig very deep".

"Being the champion, you know when to step on the gas and I had to hit the button at the right time because it's the difference between winning and losing".

"Tonight wasn't a world-class performance, it was a world class finish but not a world class performance". That just shows you what type of fighter I am. I was trying to get my feet working, it was like I was dipped in glue.

'I knew to stay calm, people might have said "he's taking this a bit slow" but I knew I had to turn it up at some point.

Fighting on the undercard of KSI's rematch with fellow internet sensation Logan Paul in Los Angeles, Saunders stopped previously undefeated Coceres in the 11th round.

Saunders sent Coceres to the canvas in the penultimate round with a heavy hook, knocked him down for the second time with an excellent uppercut and after dropping it for the third and last time, the referee abandoned the fight.

Promoter Eddie Hearn said he felt Saunders was at risk of defeat had he not found the knockout, adding: "He showed a lot of heart to come back from that as his tank was empty, he was flat".

Saunders had to wait until the 11th round to make his patience count, knocking Coceres down three times, including a crisp left uppercut that was the decisive punch that secured the victory for Saunders.

And Saunders called out boxing kingpin Canelo Alvarez to take his chance while he is in poor form. "I'll fight Lomachenko, or Ryan Garcia is a big fight".

"Canelo might watch that and think, "Now is the time to get him".
